The sexual violence research initiative(SVRI) recently brought together researchers and programmers involved in the response to sexual violence
The SVRI Forum 2011
The meeting took place in Cape Town between 10 – 13 October 2011
This meeting whose theme was geared around “moving the sexual violence agenda forward” was attended by delegates from all over the world.
Delegates to this meeting were expected to share and collaborate on a variety of issues with the overall goal of developing base to strengthen responses to victims and to end sexual violence, because sexual abuse on women is a world issue.
SVRI conference themes
The themes of the conference were:
- Primary prevention (including community based interventions)
- Responding to sexual violence: Models of care; and
- Conflict and crisis.
The opening speech of the SVRI forum 2011 was given by Margo Wallstrom.
Her speech focused on what needs to be put in place to address sexual violence in conflict.
